Fairway Wood Fitting
A fairway wood has to work off the tee and off a tight deck lie. We test both on the bench instead of guessing which one your current head handles better.
Turf-Response Mat Swaps Between Firm and Soft
Sole glide changes noticeably between a firm fairway and a softer, rain-softened one. Our hitting mat swaps between two firmness settings mid-appointment, so we can see how a candidate head reacts to both without waiting for the weather to cooperate.
Ball speed and launch get logged on every strike, same as a driver fitting, then the shortlisted shafts go through frequency and swingweight checks against the rest of your bag.
What Actually Moves in a Fairway Wood Fitting
Sole Glide & Camber
A rounded sole slides through turf resistance more forgivingly than a flat one, especially on the softer mat setting.
Loft-to-Driver Gap
Too small a loft gap and the wood duplicates the driver instead of earning its own spot in the bag.
Shaft Frequency Match
Checked against both the driver and the irons on either side, so the wood doesn't feel like a different club mid-swing.
Head Size & CG Depth
A deeper center of gravity launches easier off the deck; a shallower one favors players who already launch it high enough.
Off-Center Forgiveness
Fairway wood mis-hits happen more off tight lies. We weight forgiveness testing toward the soft mat setting for that reason.
Adjustable Hosel Settings
Loft and lie fine-tuning happens after the head and shaft are already locked in, not before.
Test Off Both Lies in One Trip
Appointments run 45–60 minutes and cover both mat settings. You leave with a printed spec card either way.
